The Porsche 997 is widely regarded as the “go-to”, post-air-cooled Porsche model for those taking their first step into 911 ownership. The 997 is the first water-cooled model that reverted to the 911’s signature round headlights and “coke bottle” flared fenders after the 996 model that preceded it and has thankfully remained so since. Its popularity stems from the way the 997 manages to meld classic 911 design and characteristics into a modern, daily driveable package.
This higher-powered Carrera 4S example is in excellent mechanical condition and is beautifully presented in GT Silver. The bodywork is faultless, and the original interior shows just the right amount of wear for its age.
This car is equipped with a Tiptronic transmission which, though not as quick-shifting as the PDK gearbox that replaces it in later 997 models, we think its smoother low-speed shifting is better suited to daily city driving. And when it finally requires some attention, the Tiptronic gearbox is a lot more straightforward and economical to keep running in tip-top shape.
