The BMW 2002 stands as one of the defining models in the marque’s history. Introduced in 1968 and evolved from BMW’s Neue Klasse, it helped establish the compact sport sedan as a category. As the story goes, two senior BMW figures independently fitted 2.0-litre engines to their own compact sedans. Upon discovering that they had arrived at the same idea, they jointly presented the proposal to BMW’s board.

What followed became one of BMW’s most consequential models, combining compact dimensions and everyday usability with genuine driver appeal. Its success cemented BMW’s reputation for sporting sedans and laid the foundations for the 3 Series generations that followed.

This 1973 Singapore-registered example has had just three owners and remained with its current owner for over seven years. Finished in striking Sunglow Orange, it retains a largely original black interior in very good condition and was last serviced in early 2026.

Driving a 2002 today offers something increasingly difficult to find: communicative steering, an eager carburetted four-cylinder engine and the mechanical directness of a four-speed manual gearbox. More than half a century after it was first registered, this beautifully preserved example remains a rare sight on Singapore’s roads.
