The Porsche 996 GT3 established a lineage that continues to define the driver-focused 911, combining motorsport engineering with the involvement of a naturally aspirated engine and manual gearbox.

Introduced in 1999 as the successor to the 993 Carrera RS, it brought the GT3 name to the road for the first time. This is the revised 996.2, which developed that original formula with a more powerful engine, stronger front brakes and wider tyres. These advances sharpened its performance while preserving the direct, mechanical character that gives the earliest GT3s their enduring appeal.

At its heart is the 3.6-litre Mezger flat-six, with engineering roots in Porsche’s Le Mans-winning 911 GT1 programme. Producing 375hp and revving to 8,200rpm, it drives the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission. Hydraulic steering, a limited-slip differential and a chassis developed for road and circuit use place the driver at the centre of the experience, with every gear change and carefully judged input contributing to its rewards.
